Weight loss measurements and electrochemical studies were employed. The corrosion rate of mild steel and the inhibition efficiencies of the extract were calculated. The results obtained show that the extract solution of the plant could serve as an effective inhibitor for the corrosion of mild steel in HCl media. Inhibition was found to increase with increasing concentration of the plant extract. The inhibitive actions of plant extract are discussed on the basis of adsorption of stable complex at the mild steel surface. Theoretical fitting of different isotherms, Langmuir, Temkin, Freundlich, Frumkin, Flory-Huggins and the kinetic thermodynamic model were tested to clarify the nature of adsorption. Polarisation curves revealed that this inhibitor act as a mixed type inhibitor and the inhibition efficiency up to 97.41 % can be obtained. The surface analysis study confirms the corrosion of mild steel and its inhibition by the inhibitor.Item Influence of Vitamin-E and Selenium Supplementation on the Growth Performance and Antibody Responses of Layer(2010) Jeyanthi, G PAn experiment was conducted to study the effect of vitamin E and selenium yeast supplementation on the growth performance and some immune parameters with two hundred and ten commercial straight run day-older layer chicks. The chicks were randomly allotted into seven treatment groups with three replicates often chicks each. The chicks were fed basal diet (Ti), basal diet with 100 mg/kg vitamin E (T2), basal diet with 200 mg/kg vitamin E (T?), basal diet with 0.2 mg/kg selenium (T4), ba.sal diet with 0.4 mg/kg selenium (T5), basal diet with 100 mg/kg vitamin E plus 0.2 mg/kg selenium (T(,), and basal diet with 200 mg/kg vitamin E plus 0.4 mg/kg selenium (T?) for eight weeks period. No significant difference was found in the body weight of layer chicks for the first four weeks among the treatment groups but the body weight ofgroups (T* and T7) receiving both vitamin E and selenium was significantly increased {P<0.05) at the end of 8 weeks period. The feed intake of layer chicks did not vary significantly between treatment groups. Chicks receiving supplements of 100 mg vitamin E/kg and 0-2 mg selenium/kg produced significantly higher HA litre against SRBC (P<0.0/), HI litre against NDV (P<0.0J) and QAGPT litre against IBDV {P<0.()i). The results suggested that vitamin E and selenium might provide higher level of protection against natural immune challenges.Item Synthesis of Eco- Friendly Plant mediated Nanoparticles from Leucas aspera (Thumbai) and its Antimicrobial Properties in Food Packaging during Disaster Risk Management(2010) Sylvia Subapriya, MSilver nanoparticles due to their unique properties, find use in day-to-day applications in human life. The major advantage of using plant extracts for silver nanoparticle synthesis are easily available, safe, and nontoxic. The main mechanism of the process is plant-assisted reduction due to phytochemicals and are quicker than microbes in synthesis. In this present work, we have worked on environment friendly technique on green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from ImM AgNO^ solution through the extract of Leucas aspera which jxtssess both the reducing as well as capping agent. Material and Methods: The study evaluated the antioxidant properties of Moringa oleifera leaves against GCh-induced oxidative damage in liver slices. Results: CCU treatment significantly decreased the activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione S-transferase and caused decreased glutathione cbntent and increased the thiobarbituric acid-reacting substances (TBARS). Treatment with Morinqp oleifera extract increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes and glutathione content and reduced the levels of TBARS significantly. Observed reduction in the level of lipid! peroxides showed a decreased tendency of peroxidative damage. Discussion and Conclusion: We conclude that, under these experimental conditions, the leaf extracts effectively suppress CCU-induced oxidative stress. Our findings provide evidence to demonstrate that the possible mechanism of this activity may be due to the strong antioxidant property of the leaves.Item Solid Supports in the Synthesis of Few Vinyl Guinolones(2010) Lalitha, PThe present investigation involves use o f microwave technology aided by solid supports-ahimina, montmorillonite clay, bentonite, silica gel , dowex and amberlite fo r the synthesis o f few 4- substituted-3-vinyl quinolines and 4-substituted-3-vinyl quinoline-2(lH)-thiones, The results of the microwave reactions aided by solid supports indicate significant increase in the yield o f product and reduction in the time o f synthesis compared to classic conditions and in microwave reactions without solid supports. Development of segmentation algorithms has attracted considerable research interest, relatively little work has been published on the subject of their evaluation. Hence this paper enumerates and reviews mainly the image segmentation algorithms namely Otsu, Fuzzy C means. Global Active Contour / Snake model and Watershed. These suitable segmentation methods arc implemented for IR images and arc evaluated based on the parameters. The parameters arc Variation Of Information (VOI), Global Consistency Error (GCE) and Probabilistic Rand Index (PRI). The objective of the paper is to identify the best segmentation algorithm that is suitable for IR images. From the experimentation and evaluation it is observed that the Global Active Contour/Snakc model works better compared to other methods for IR images.Item Determinants of Agricultural Credit by Scheduled Commercial Banks - A Comparative Study in the Pre and Post Reform Period(2010) Annapoorani, RAgricultural credit is one of tltc most crucial inputs in the adoption of technological innervations, modernization of agriculture, to improve productiinty and for all agricultural development programmes. Scheduled commercial batiks were a predominant source o f institutional credit to the farmers. The share ofSCBs in total institutional credit to agriculture has increased from 50.03 per cent in 1998-99 to 77.89 per cent in 2008-09. The research study on "Determinants of Agriailhiral Credit by Scheduled Commercial Banks-A Comparative Study in the Pre and Post Reform Period" was formulated with the objectives of to compare the provision of agricultural credit by SCBs between pre and post reform period and to identify the determinants o f agriailtural credit provided by SCBs during the pre and post reform period. The study zoas related to the period 1^80-81 to 2006-07 and the required data xoere compiled from the secondary sources. Compound growth rate,, t test and regression analysis were used fo r the analysis. The study found that the direct agricultural credit provided by the scheduled commercial banks at constant prices had shown an increasing trend with fluctuation. In the post refyfni period the share df direct agricultural credil ut both curimi arid Wasiihti^iaiiy signifwan f mditpid^iitfoe. rdafdm^fy with ike advances. But iuthe post reformperiod, along with tlie amount o f deposits, the area under high yielding varieties was also statistically significant. As such to increase • the direct agricultural adi>ances, the commercial banks should be strictly regulated to follow the percentage o f net bank credit towards direct agricultural advances. Further, proper extension services-should be made to increase the area tinder high yielding variety seeds.Item Kinetics of the Removal of Hexavalent Chromium Using a Low-Cost Activated Carbon Adsorbent(2010) Lalitha, PCarbonized Areca catechu shell waste has been used as an adsorbent for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution. The optimum contact time for effective adsorption of Cr (VI) from aqueous solution has been determined. The kinetics of the process of adsorption of chromium onto activated carbon prepared from Areca catechu has been carried out using Lagergren’s first order kinetic equation. The adsorption of Cr (VI) was found to be concentration dependent. Conformation of data to the Lagergren’s rate equation indicates first order kinetics for Cr (VI) removal by adsorption .Item Coimbatore, still far ahead(2010) Vasugi, N
