Abstract
Cellulases have euoinious potenlial in induslries and are used in food, beverages,
textile, laundr y, paper and pulp industries. The treniend(uis crninnercial
potential of cellulases in a variety of applications remains the driving force for
reseaich in this area. This study was aimed to screen the cellulolytic ability of
fungi from garbage waste discharged soil and softening of nonconventional
fibres. The optimal conditicm for enzyme activity was determined. Highest
yield of enzyme was noted at 40°C while rniLxirnum activity in the range of pH
6. High enzyme activity was obseiwed after 60 minutes of incubation, maximum
activity was obseixed at tire concentration of one ml enzyme. The optimized
parameters for biosoftening of hemp and jute fibres are pH.6, temperature
-40°C, Incubation tirne-60 minutes and enzyme: water proportion is 1:1. and
pH.7. temperature -30°C. Incubation tirne-60 minutes and enzyme: water pro
portion is 1:1 respectively.
