dc.description.abstractScouring is a cleaning process for renewing natural and actiuired impurities of fibers. Common industrial practices involve use of sodium hydroxide to remove non - celltilosic materials. In (his process, the individual non - cellulosic components other than natural colouring matters are converted into solute compounds are removed in subsequent washing. This traditional scouring process consumes large quantities of energ)' and water and is not ecofriendly. High level of pH and temperature used in this process that damages the fiber due to non - specific attack of alkali especially when performed in the presence of oxygen, it also results in loss in strength of the fiber. Hence, there was demand for scouring process carried out using mild conditions. It led to the development of substrate specific, low water consuming and environment friendly process, namely enzymatic scouring. Textile wet processing is one of the largest and oldest industries world wide, responsible for substantial resource consumption and pollution especially in terms of water.en_US
