Item Effectiveness of Mindfulness Therapy in Managing Performance Anxiety and Enhancing Self efficacy among Hockey Players(Avinashilingam, 2025-01) Anupama N; Guide - Dr. S. GayatrideviHockey is a National Sport of India having rich and long lasting legacy of our country. Performance anxiety not only limits one's capabilities but also prevents one from giving their best effort that is when the athletes experience lower self-efficacy and become mentally weak. A person with high self-efficacy views challenges as things that are supposed to be mastered rather than threats to avoid stated by Albert Bandura (1977). Mindfulness is an essential human capacity to be completely present, conscious and not being affected or overwhelmed by the events occurring around. The study assessed gender variations and relationship between performance anxiety, self-efficacy and mindfulness of hockey players. The study comprises a sample of 49 hockey players (29 male and 20 female) between the ages of 18 – 25 years were selected from the Hockey Stadium at Bangalore. Hockey players were assessed for self-efficacy, performance anxiety and mindfulness using questionnaires. Results proved to have a significant difference between male and female samples on the levels of self-efficacy and performance anxiety characteristics as somatic, worry and concentration disruption. Male hockey players reported with higher levels of performance anxiety compared to females indicating that they were finding difficulty in focusing, and easily distracted from external distractions. Compared to male, female players reported higher levels of self-efficacy. The mindfulness treatment has really facilitated hockey players to manage their performance anxiety and enhance self-efficacy. Behavioural, emotional, cognitive and sleep issues were also significantly improved by enriching their ability to analyse, make goals and deal with emotional problems which in turn reduced their aggressive behaviour, that is especially common in young people. The research study gives a central idea for enlightening the greatness and achievement of hockey players Key Words: Mindfulness Therapy, Self-efficacy, Performance Anxiety and Hockey PlayersItem Efficacy of Expressive Arts Therapy to enhance Academic Achievement among Learning Disabled Adolescents(Avinashilingam, 2024-10) Vatsala Mirnaalini; Guide - Dr. S. GayatrideviThe current study aimed to enhance academic achievement among Learning Disabled Adolescents using Expressive Arts Therapy and Brain Gym technique. The Research Design used was before, after and follow-up with waitlist control group. Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices, Schonell: Graded Reading Test, Schonell: Graded Spelling Test, The Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test, Social Competence Scale, Moss Attention Rating Scale, Youth Disability Screener, Digit Span Test were administered to the participants. Initially 80 participants underwent IQ test and filtered to 70 participants. Out of 70 participants, 66 became part of the study with 35 participants in experimental group and 31 in waitlist control group. The participants in the experimental group took part in the Expressive Arts Therapy and Brain Gym intervention for 8 weeks. Participants in the waitlist control group were administered to the same intervention after follow-up phase. The results revealed that most of the participants had scored moderate Emotional Intelligence, Social Competence, Attention, Working Memory, Academic Achievement and Quality of Life. There was significant difference between Learning Disabled Boy and Girl Adolescent students in Emotional Intelligence. There is a significant difference in Experimental group and Waitlist control group in Emotional Intelligence, Attention and Quality of Life. Expressive Arts Therapy and Brain Gym technique had been effective in enhancing the Emotional Intelligence, Social Competence, Working Memory, Academic Achievement of the Learning Disabled Adolescents in the Experimental Group. From the study, it is imperative that Expressive Arts Therapy can be included in the curriculum to enhance the Academic Achievement of the Learning Disabled students and recommends inclusive education. Amudha DeviIn the recent years, there has been a growing interest to utilise the precision nutrition approach for the prevention, management and treatment of obesity, which takes into consideration the interaction between food and the human and microbial genome. It is quite evident that awareness and popularity about genetic testing for personalised nutrition is gaining momentum. Consumer attitudes and perceptions towards genetic testing to determine the risks of a predisposition to various diseases have already been examined by several studies, consumer acceptance of personalised nutrition have not been studied in the Indian population till date. In phase one of the study, Consumer acceptance of genetic testing and the responses towards perceived advantages of receiving DNA based dietary advice were ease of understanding and specificity of the diet advice, which was the most frequently reported theme (57.5%), followed by more personalised and enjoyable (22.4%) and reduced costs due to disease prevention (20.1%). The study concluded that individuals were optimistic and perceived many advantages of nutrigenetic testing. The study populations was optimistic and were willing to adopt genetic tests for personalised nutrition recommendations. In phase two of the study, we compared the differences in anthropometric measurements, dietary intake and dietary adherence among standard generic dietary advice, personalized nutrition advice based on nutrigenetic variations and the precision nutrition advice based on nutrigenetic variations and gut microbiome profiling. A statistically significant increase in the Bacteroidetes genus was observed in the personalized nutrition group (p = .04). The change (delta) values in gut microbiome composition in personalized nutrition group were significantly higher at the end of 90 days. Gut microbiome-based personalized microbiome modulation through diet significantly improves gut microbiome profiles among obese individuals. Further need studies are needed with larger sample size to validate these study findings and long-term follow-up.Item Positive Psychology Constructs: Development and Measurement(Avinashilingam, 2023-11) Sudha R; Dr. S. GayatrideviThe present study examines the factor structure of the C. A. R. E Inventory. This psychological assessment tool was developed by the researcher in response to the COVID pandemic when there was a lacuna of locally developed assessment tools to assess positivity and hence develop such positive psychology constructs for empirical assessment. After ethical approval, items were generated based on a survey of 2780 adults on the specific positive psychology constructs necessary during the present pandemic scenario and its aftermath. The participants gave the maximum rating for four main positive psychology constructs based on which the acronym C. A. R. E. was devised where: C: stands for Compassion and Self-Compassion A: stands for Achieving a Purpose in Life R: stands for Relationship Building E: stands for Enhancing Positive Emotions Following this, items were generated and subjected to content validity with subject experts and stakeholders. After establishing the required content validity ratio, normality assessments were conducted followed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis for a final sample of 862 adults. CFA models reveal that the 36 item C. A. R. E Inventory has sufficient model fit indices, namely the normed chi-square (3.68), Comparative Fit Index (CFI=0.943), Incremental Fit Index (IFI=0.943), Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI=0.939), Normed Fit Index (NFI=0.924), and Relative Fit index (RFI=0.918), all above 0.9, indicating good model fit. Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) value of 0.056 and a Standardized Root Mean Squared Residual (SRMR) value of 0.0295, all of them indicate a good fit for the model. All items had a factor loading of above 0.70. This psychological tool is hence ready for use globally as it has no culturally biased items. Moreover, an intervention module with the name C. A. R. E Intervention Module, an activity-based intervention aimed to improve the four aforesaid constructs is also developed and validated using four randomized control trial experiments. Keywords: C. A.
