Abstract
This a rticle d emonstrates the textile p o ten tia l o f Agave v e r a -cn iz
L. fib er. It d ea ls with the extraction o f f ib e r fr om Agave v era-crn z
Mill leaves, an a ly z in g its ch em ic a l composition such a s cellulose,
lignin, ivax, ash, a n d moisture content. Physical p rop erties such
a s f ib e r length, density, a n d their m e c h a n ic a l b eh a v io r in tensile
tests w ere ex am in ed . Scanning electron m icro scop ic study was
c on d u c ted both in lon g itu d in al a n d cross-section al d irection to
ide72tify the su r fa c e topologj) o f the fib er. In fra red spectra ayid
XRD o f Agave v e r a -cn iz Mill fib e rs were r e c o rd ed to d eterm in e the
ch aracteristic absorption b an d s with its d eg ree o f crystallinity. The
ch em ic a l con ten t estimation shows that cellulose (77.43%) was the
m a jo r constituent p resen t in the fib er. Physical prop erties reveal
that Agave v era-cru z Mill f ib e r h a s g o o d pro sp ectiv e in fu tu re.
SEM im a g e depicts the p r e s en c e o f p o ly g on a l voids. FTIR a n d X-ray
d iffrac tion assessment o f the f i b er reveals the p r e s en c e o f cellulose
Ifi with crystallinity in d ex o f 60%.
