Abstract
The inhibition effect of Podranea ricasoliana leaves extract
(PRL) on mild steel corrosion in IM HCl has been studied by
mass loss and potentiodynamic polarization. The results infer
that the inhibition efficiency increased with increase in
concentration of the plant extract and corrosion rate increased
with increase in temperature. Experimental results were fitted
into various adsorption isotherms. Electrochemical
impedance results confirmed the inhibitive nature and tafel
polarization studies indicated mixed mode of inhibition of
the PRL extract. Based on the experimental studies, a
possible mechanism was suggested. Surface analytical
techniques were carried out using FT-IR and Scanning
electron microscope (SEM). The overall result suggested that
PRL extract could serve as a effective inhibitor to minimise
corrosion..
