A new approach has been made to impart antimicrobial property to cotton fabrics using natural medicinal herbal extracts. Many plant extracts possessing an antimicrobial property which is available in Tamil Nadu, can be used as textile finishing agents. Datura jrtoxia (Leaves) and Leucas aspera (whole plant) were chosen for the study. It involves the applications of selected herbal extracts of the plant onto cotton fabric by using Exhaustion method. The antimicrobial efficacies of the treated fabric were assessed by qualitative and quantitative method in terms of bacterial reduction and the wash durability of antimicrobial activity by AATCClOO method. It is observed that the treated herbal extracts possess a very good resistance for microbes even after 15 washes.en_US
