A study was carried out to determine the effect of varying dietary probiotic levels on the reproductive performance of a fresh water ornamental species, the black molly (Poecilia spenops). The commercial probiotic, Vibact were mixed thoroughly with the artificial feeds at concentrations of 0.2% (T1 ), 0.4% (T2), 0.6% (T3) and 0.8% (T4) and fed to healthy fish for a period of 60 days. The obtained results showed that supplementation of probiotic feed increased significantly (P<0.05) the fecundity, fry production, fry survival and gonado somatic index (GSI). Fishes fed with 0.4% (T2) of probiotic supplementation showed significantly (p<0.05) better results when compared to all the test diets and control. Based on these data, it is concluded that female black molly brood stocks benefit from inclusion of Vibact in diet during their reproductive stages. Further, study is needed to know the mechanism of action for probiotics such as Vibact and their applications.en_US
