Item 1 Adsorption and Corrosion Inhibition of Clytostoma callistegioides (leaf & flower extracts) on Mild Steel in 1M HCl solution(2015-03) Hemalatha, G B; Rajalakshmi, RItem Acid Extracts of Ervatamia coronaria Leaves for Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel(2010) Subhashini, S; Rajalakshmi, RCorrosion inhibitors for acid cleaning processes are used to restrict dissolution of the base metal and decrease acid consumption and hydrogen gas evolution. Because of the toxic nature and high cost of some chemicals currently in use, it is necessary to develop environmentally acceptable and less expensive inhibitors. Natural products can be considered as a good source for this puipose. An evaluation of the effective performance of extract of Ervatamia coronaria leaves on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M HCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 at ambient temperature has been made. Conventional weight loss and electrochemical measurements were used for the evaluation. Electrochemical studies reveal that the plant extracts act as mixed type inhibitors. The Etvatamia coronaria (Nandhiyavatai) leaves extracts yielded a maximum of 98 % in acid medium. Surface coverage values were tested graphically for suitable adsorption isotherm.Item Adsorption Behaviour and Corrosion Inhibitive Potential of Imidazoline Derivatives on Mild Steel/Acid Interface(2011-10-07) Nalini, D; Rajalakshmi, RItem Aqueous Extract of Borassus flabellifer Linn. (Palmyra Palm) Peduncle as a Green Inhibitor for Corrosion of Mild Steel in H2SO4 Medium(2014) Rajalakshmi, R; Vijayalakshmi, P RInhibitive and absorptive nature of aqueous extract of palmyra palm {Borassus flabellifer Linn.) peduncle (BFP) for the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 was investigated using chemical and electrochemical techniques. Characterization of BFP was carried out using GCMS and FT-IR spectroscopic studies. The aqueous extract of BFP was found to be a good adsorption inhibitor for the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution at all studied temperatures and period of immersion. Thermodynamic parameters revealed that there is a strong interaction between the metal surface and inhibitor. The adsorption characteristic of the inhibitor is consistent with the assumptions of El-Awady kinetic thermodynamic and Frumkin adsorption isotherm. A comprehensive adsorption model was proposed for the adsorption of aqueous peduncle extract of Borassus flabellifer Linn, on mild steel surface. The inhibition potentials of aqueous extract of BFP was enhanced by its phytochemical constituents. The electrochemical measurement reveal that the peduncle extract behaved like mixed type inhibitor. Surface analytical techniques such as SEM and FT-IR confirmed the adsorption of BFP on mild steel surface.Item Assessement and Correlation Study of Macro and Micro Nutrients in Feeds Manufactured in Various Processing units at Namakkal District(1999-05) Banumathi, P; Rajalakshmi, RItem Assessment of the Inhibitive Action of Bakery Waste for Corrosion of Mild Steel In Acid medium(2008-04) Leelavathi, S; Rajalakshmi, RItem Baby Corn Silk Extract-A Novel and Effective Acid Corrosion Inhibitor for Mild Steel(2011-04) Saraswathi, N; Rajalakshmi, RItem Bauhinia Variegata Leaves Mediated Green Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles and its Antimicrobial Activity(2018-04) Abhina, V T; Rajalakshmi, RItem Benincasa Hispida (Ash gourd) Seed Extract- As Corrosion Inhibitor For Mild Steel In Acid Medium(2013) Rajalakshmi, RSeed extract of Benincasa hispida was evaluated for its corrosion inhibitive effect on mild steel in 1M H2SO4 using weight loss and electrochemical measurement techniques. The results reflect that the inhibition efficiency increases with increase of extract concentration. Maximum inhibition efficiency in 1M H2SO4 was found to be 94.7% for a period of 6h with 0.5% concentration of the inhibitor. Experimental results were fitted in to Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherm to study the process of inhibition. Potentiodynamic polarization results reveal that the seed extract behaved like mixed type inhibitor.Item Cellulose Acetate Blend Syzygium Cumini Leaves Green Membrane Synthesis and its Application(2018-04) Shruthi, S; Rajalakshmi, RItem Chem Sci Rev Lett 2014, 3(11S), 177-187 Article CS012044082 177 Research Article Application of Natural Products as Corrosion Inhibitors in Different Steel and Media(2014) Rajalakshmi, RRapid industrialization has led to the onset of increased utilization of steel in various industries. Their encounter with aqueous corrosive environment in industrial application makes them susceptible to corrosion. This has lead to the search of better and efficient protection methods for the prevention of corrosion. A global phenomenon, corrosion manifests in various forms and the losses due to corrosion are enormous. Application of inhibitors to prevent corrosion is a widely accepted form of protection as it is one of the easily available methods. In recent years the usage of natural products as corrosion inhibitors is gaining momentum due to environmental considerations. In this direction, the present review highlights the role of phyto-chemical constituents present in the plant extracts on different types of steel in various media.Item Cocos Nucifera Shell as a Potential Inhibitor for Mild Steel Corrosion in Acidic Medium(2010) Rajalakshmi, RThe effect of coconut (Cocos nucifera) shell extract obtained by destructive distillation, on the corrosion of mild steel in H2SO4 and HCl in the temperature range of 30-60° C was studied by weight loss method and electrochemical measurements. Results obtained reveal that the extract reduces the corrosion rate. The inhibition efficiency increases with an increase in the concentration of the extract and appreciable increase with increase in temperature. Experimental results were fitted into various adsorption isotherms. Activation energy and thermodynamic parameters were evaluated from temperature studies. Electrochemical measurements reveal that the extract behaves as a mixed type inhibitor. A suitable mechanism is also proposed.Item Comparison of Inhibitive Action of Sprouted and Non Sprouted Seed Extracts of Cajanus Cajan on Mild Steel in Acid Medium(2004-05) Femina Mary, R; Rajalakshmi, RItem A Comparitive Study of Equipments Used in Commercial and Non-Commercial Food Services(1994-05) Rajalakshmi, R; Dorathy JaganathanItem Contribution of Adolescents towards Household Activities(1988-12) Veronica, N D; Rajalakshmi, RItem Correlation Between Micronutrients and Macronutrients of the Soils of Ramanthapuram: An Approach to Improve the family Status of Soil(1998-04) Lathalu, K; Rajalakshmi, RItem A Correlation Study of Aelatoxin B1 aand Ochratoxin A in Different Feed Ingredients in Agro Industries(1999-05) Maheswari, J; Rajalakshmi, RItem Corrosion Inhibition Effect of Dicycloimine Hydrochloride (DCI) on Mild Steel in 1M HCl(2010) Rajalakshmi, RAddition of corrosion inhibitors is one of the widely used methods to control corrosion. In the this work, an attempt has been made to explore the possibility of using dicycloimine hydrochloride (DCI) as an inhibitor on mild steel in 1 M HCl. The inhibition efficiency of DCI has been evaluated by conventional weight loss method and electrochemical polarization studies. Experimental results are fitted to various adsorption isotherms. Thermodynamic parameters have also been studied from temperature studies. The results reveal that DCI acts as an effective inhibitor (around 90% of IE) in HCl media.
