Item Fluorescence Analysis of Two Medicinal Plants — Psidium Guajava L and Citrus Aurantium(2014) Gayathri, V; Kiruba, DThe plants used for the present study viz., Psidium guajava L and Citrus aurantium belong to the family Myrtaceae and Rutaceae respectively. Guava is native to tropical America. The young leaves are used as tonic in digestive disorders. Bitter orange is native of South Eastern Asia; grow in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. It is a rich source of provitamin A. The present investigation on the fluorescent characters of the leaf powder showed varied colours like green, pale green, dark green, brown and yellow under different chemical treatments in both the medicinal plants used for the study.Item Preliminary Phytochemical Analysis of Dry Leaf Powder Extracts of Citrus Aurantium(2014) Gayathri, V; Kiruba, DThe plant citrus aurantium is native of South Eastern Asia; grow in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. It is an evergreen tree with sharp thorns. C. aurantium is commonly known as bitter orange. Leaf, fruit and fruit juice are used to make medicine. Bitter orange has many chemicals that protect the nervous system. The present study was carried out to evaluate the phytochemicals present in the leaf powder of bitter orange. The phytochemical study showed the presence of quinones, oil & fat, starch, carbohydrates and cellulose in all the four solvent extracts. Leaves are dark green, elliptic, ovate or oblong rounded or with an obtuse apex. Guava is commonly known for its food and nutritional values and the fruit considered as poor man apple of tropics. The present study was carried out to evaluate the phytochemicals present in the leaf powder of guava. The phytochemical study showed the presence of phenol, carbohydrates and cellulose in all the four solvent extracts. Terpenoids were also present in certain solvent extracts. Flavonoids were present in chloroform and benzene extracts.Item Preliminary Phytochemical Screening and Fluorescence Analysis of Dry Leaf Powder Extracts of Citrus Limonum(2014) Gayathri, V; Kiruba, DThe plant is found throughout India, entire North-East region. It has a long history of cultivation in Southeast Asia and China. Plants possess some specific chemicals called phytochemicals in them which may not have nutritional property as such, but they can work towards the deterrence of diseases. The present study was carried out to evaluate the phytochemicals present in the leaf powder and also to study the fluorescent characters of the leaf powder. The phytochemical study showed the presence of terpenoids, oil and fat, starch, carbohydrate and cellulose in all the four extracts of the leaf powder. Flavonoid was present in water and chloroform extracts. The fluorescence analysis of leaf powder of C. Innomun showed varied colour with the treatment of different chemicals.Item Study of Biochemical Parameters of Four Different Medicinal Plants(2014) Gayathri, V; Kiruba, DMedicinal plants are the most exclusive source of life saving drugs for majority of the world's population. The use of medicinal plant extract increases the body's immune system and lowers the allergies and asthma. The four medicinal plants taken for the present study possess digestive property. The experiment conducted to study the biochemical parameters of the leaves of the four medicinal plants viz., R. tomentosa, P. guajava, C, aurantium and C. limonum showed a significantly higher protein, carbohydrate and chlorophyll content in C. aurantium. The chlorophyll and total chlorophyll content was found to be significantly higher in R. tomentosa.
