Item Assessment of the Quality of Life of Senior Citizens in Ernakulam District of Kerala(2011) Jaya, SQuality of life is one of the oldest and most persistently investigated issues in the study of adulthood. This study was conducted on a sample of 100 elderly persons (50 male and 50 females) selected from 26 old age homes through stratified random sampling and 500 free living elderly consisting of 250 males and 250 females using the WHOQOL - BREF tool. This study revealed that free living males and females expressed more satisfaction than their counterparts residing in old age homes'.Item ASSESSMENT OF THE STRESS EXPERIENCED BY THE SENIOR CITIZENS IN ERNAKULAM DISTRICT OF KERALA(2011) Jaya, SAgeing is a complex plienomenon accompanied by physiological, psychological and soiuid changes which often results in a decline in health status (Hemalatha, 1999), Ageing is a continuous process that begins with conception and ends with death. Ageing is not a disease but a biological process (Henry, 2000). Ageing is a gradual developmental process of biological, psychological, sociological and behavioural change that begins at the moment when an individual is born (Chandrasekhar and Rhooma. 1999). Ageing refers to the nomial piugtessive and irreversible biological changes occurring in an individual’s life span (Nalarajan. 1998). In spite of all efforts taken by the govemment and other agencies, the feeling of neglect and the condition of being abandoned are indeed leading to stress in the elderly population. Tliis study was caiTied out using a sample of 307 elderly from old age homes and free living elderly from selected areas of Ernakulam district of Kerala. The tool used for the study consisted of a questionnaire prepared by the investigator and a standardized stress inventoi^. Standardised tools on socio demographic profile and WHO- QOL Brefwere used pre and post the psychosocial intervention. Adolescent get interested because they can make things happen with the Internet. It may not seem to the naked eye that exposure to the Internet would have a positive effect on the physical development of children. However, knowledge of muscular development and motor control skills leads them to deduce that regular Internet usage would naturally enhance adolescent’s eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills due to keyboard and mouse usage. Adolescence who uses the Internet show gains in cognitive abilities such as memory, spatial and logical problem solving, critical thinking, concentration, abstraction and comprehension. The Internet exposes adolescence to information to improve the quality of learning that they can transform into knowledge.
