The economic status of the tribal population is determined by a complex set of socio-economic, cultural, religious and ecological factors. There have been various attempts at the empirical levels to explain the nature and behaviour of the tribal population and to measure the nature of changes in their life style behaviour. While studies abound in explaining the socio-economic conditions of the tribal population and the impact of governmental measures in improving their economic status, very few studies have been done at the micro level in the State of Tamil Nadu. The present study, a modest attempt to explain the quality of life of tribal population in Coimbatore district, is an effort to collect research and evidence on their present conditions at the micro level. Further, there are few studies in the past that have attempted to analyse the productivity and wage relationship at individual industry level. A study o f the individual industries at regional level was therefore, attempted to have a better understanding o f the problem, so as to delineate the area for remedial action. The reference period o f the study was from 1979-80 to 2008-09. In order to clearly understand the links between wages and productivity in selected industries, this study has used a simple econometric analysis namely, step-wise regression i model. The wage-productivity relationship that existed in the manufacture o f Wood and Wood products in majority o f i the cases (either insignificant or negative) disproved the hypothesis that wage rate (Lnw) was significantly related to labour productivity (LnGVA/L). This explained the fact that there were factors other than those considered in [ this model that have influenced the real wage rate (Lnw) in this industry.Item Comprehensive Study on the Performance of Cheran Engineering Corporation Limited., in the Year 1974-75 to 1982-83(1986-05) Rajarajeswari, M; Geetha, K TItem Consumption Pattern Among the Selected Urban Slum Households in Coimbatore City(2016) Geetha, K TConsumption, in economic theory, means the final use of goods and services to satisfy human wants, needs and desires. It is a process of deriving utility from goods and services. Consumption is defined as the total value of expenditures on goods and services for the current use by the household sector (Henderson and Poole, 1991). Food being the foremost basic need gets priority in the patterns of expenditure of people, especially the poor classes. Access to food demands affordability which depends upon two factors, namely, income of the people and prices prevailing in the country. The study throws light on the impact of socio-economic determinants on consumption expenditure and to identity the determinants which distinguish the poor households from the non-poor households. Seventy five households were selected by adopting purposive sampling technique and Data were collected from primary source during the period November to December 2014 at Ukkadam in Coimbatore City. Data was analysed by using critical ratio test, stepwise regression analysis, Gini coefficient and discriminant analysis. Changing food habits, rising income of the middle class Indian, presence of private players, rising market demand of the Indian poultry produce in the export market are some of the contributing factors to the growth of the industry. Therefore, the study intends to examine the socio-economic background of the poultry farmers; to analyze the investment, cost and profit of the farmers and to identity the problems faced by the farmers. The study based on primary and secondary data collected from 120 poultry farmers by adopting purposive sampling during November 2013 to January 2014. Cost of feeding constitutes a major problem to most of the poultry farmers as it accounts for a larger percentage of total cost of production, since poultry birds cannot do without food.
